To mark the Breast Cancer Awareness month, BCS in collaboration with Ministry of Health observed the Breast Cancer Day on 29th October 2015 with the theme “ Know Your Boobs”. Dr. Ugyen Tshomo, Dr. Duptho Wangmo, and Dr.Tashi Dhendup led the program at JDWNRH where over 200-300 women attended the prevention and advocacy campaign. The objective of the campaign was to raise awareness on breast cancer and sensitize women on the benefits of self-breast examination for early detection thereby improving treatment outcomes.
Three venue-based targeted awareness programs were held for Royal Body Guards (RBG), Royal Bhutan Army (BRA) and Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) communities to raise awareness on risks, prevention and early detection of breast cancers in Bhutan. Beside the demonstration of accurate self-breast examination, the awareness program also included a question and answer session with medical experts to “demystify cancer myths”. Dr. Ugyen Tshomo, the only gyenaoncologist led the program at RBG where over 800 military wives and families participated. Dr. Duptho Wangmo, Gynecologist led the RBA program where 400 women attended the campaign. Dr. Tashi Dhendup, only oncologist led the program at RBP where over 300 military wives attended the campaign.
